Turkish firms may join wind power projects in Kalbajar, Lachin: Azerbaijani ambassador

Azerbaijani Ambassador to Türkiye Rashad Mammadov has said Turkish companies are preparing to participate in wind energy projects in Kalbajar and Lachin.

He made the statement in an interview with Anadolu Agency on June 21, AzVision.az reports.

According to him, Turkish companies Achar Enerji, Eksim Holding, Best Brands Energy Group, Renevo Enerji, and Solar APEX are interested in projects related to renewable energy sources, "because Azerbaijan has a serious potential for renewable energy”.

Mammadov reminded that in 2021, President Ilham Aliyev signed an order on measures to create a zone of "green energy" in the territories liberated from decades-long Armenian occupation as a result of the 44-day Second Karabakh War in late 2020.

The alternative energy potential of the liberated territories of Azerbaijan includes almost all types of renewable energy sources, including hydro, solar, wind, and geothermal.

The wind energy potential of the liberated territories is especially prevalent in the Kalbajar and Lachin districts. According to data released by the Energy Ministry, the average annual wind speed in these territories reaches 10 meters per second. The potential of wind energy in the mountainous areas of the Karabakh region is estimated at 2,000 megawatts.

Meanwhile, there are also 4,000-5,000 cubic meters of thermal water per day in the territory of the Kalbajar, Lachin, and Shusha districts.

The Azerbaijani government has identified the transformation of the country’s Karabakh region into a green energy zone as a priority within the ongoing reconstruction and development projects.
